We have over 700 textile items in our collection, showing clothes and fabrics used in north Wales, dating from the late 1700s to today. The embroidered silk court dress (dismantled) shown here dates from the 1760s. As well as an extensive collection of clothes of the type that were worn throughout Britain in the 19th century, we also have a good collection of Welsh woollen garments and fabrics, made locally from home produced wool. An example can be seen here.
There are 2 costume displays: one changing every 12 months, and the other concerning the context and authenticity of ‘Welsh’ costume.
